NaBloPoMo - NaNoWriMo free

There is no decal on my blog this month. I'm not trying to write a blog post every day, nor am I trying to write a novel within a month. Daily writing is important. It imparts habit and (hopefully) improves skill. Grahame Green wrote every day, but imposed a 500 word limit on himself. I wonder if that made him write more tersely on days he was on a roll.

I aspire to clean, elegant prose. You'd nod sadly if you knew how long I take to bring some posts to their final form. As there's no structural criticism here, just me trying to apply a few basic principles of grammar usage, sentence length and word choice, change comes slowly. According to semi-independent observers, blogging has improved my writing abilities.

I'm glad people are engaging in NaBloPoMo and NaNoWriMo. For those looking for a fun vehicle to develop the habit of everyday writing, or those who are looking for a simple excercise in goal-setting and achievement, I think these are great ways to start.

Me, I'll just tag along. If there comes a day too busy, or without inspiration, I won't write that day. Everyday will try to be its best self, with or with a blog post.
