Product Review: Organic Lemon Echinacea Throat Coat

Fans of hot beverages generally, and fans of hot beverages for the afflicted take note. Traditional Medicinals has released a new version of their classic elixer Throat Coat tea. I bought a box of the new blend three days ago; here is my review.

To begin, TM advertises that the new variant contains 70% organic materials. I haven't done a good job at incorporating organics into my diet as much as I should, primarily due to cost. However, the tea was priced the same organics or not, which just makes me feel all the better about buying it.

Unfortunately, I did not find this tea was as effective at soothing a raw throat vexed by the caustic secretions brought on by your typical rhinovirus. For that purpose, the original Throat Coat is superior. Key differences are that the Lemon Echinacea TC is less sweet and lacks much of the slippery quality that makes the Original blend so effective. The echinacea is very prominent both in taste and in mouth feel. The tea is slightly puckery with a moderate daisy flavor.

That said... While the tea didn't soothe my throat as much as I had hoped, SOMETHING made my cold improve overnight. I'm very tempted to say think that the echinacea really did boost my beleaguered immune system enough to fight back effectively. I went from fever, chills, body aches and exhaustion to feeling like I really hadn't been all that sick!

Winter colds suck, but this new tea may help you get over the symptoms a little faster. For those who like their tea a little sweeter, or who need to compensate for the throat soothing properties of the original, I find a tablespoon of honey per 12 oz of tea helps a lot. Be sure to follow the steeping instructions as herbs really do need a long sit in order to aquify the botanical elements.

Be well!

I may have to look into that - assuming I can since I am breastfeeding.

Thanks for the review!

Hey Cagey,

You'll want to do your own research of course, but I can tell you that my sister the physician's assistant drank nearly a box of the stuff last week in her bout with the despicable rhinovirus from hell. Squiggle (her son, my nephew) is about 2 weeks younger than Anjali and is all but completely breastfed these days.
