When I got home I looked up Pyrex on Wikipedia. THOSE FUCKERS CHEAPED OUT!!! Corning Glass Works, makers of Pyrex, built a name for themselves by manufacturing dense, heat-resistant glass. Glass you could heat over a direct flame. Glass that was made with boron, called
But no... cheap-fuckity has to win out. Corning leased the name to an outfit called World Kitchen, and all they do is make soda-lime glass, which is about as heat resistant as your front window.
So if anyone has any leads on where to get actual, proper borosilicate glass in the US (as opposed to muling it over from Europaland) I'm all ears.
Meanwhile, treat your Pyrex exploding cookware TM that is newer than 1990 with extreme caution, the shit is dangerous.
