1. How do you like your eggs? Yuck. Hate eggs. I can eat them scrambled with cheddar to disguise the taste/texture, but I draw the line there.
2. How do you take your coffee/tea? Like my men, hot, black and bitter. Err. Kidding. Coffee—dark roast, strong hand with the half & half. Tea, I take with milk and a packet of Splenda, unless it’s an herbal tisane which is plain but may contain honey.
3. Favorite breakfast food: Yuck. Hate breakfast food. Although, from time to time, nothing satisfies like a pecan waffle. Nothing delivers quite the sugar headache either.
4. Peanut butter: See item 16.
5. What kind of dressing on your salad? Newman’s olive oil & vinegar is my standby, but usually I make my own dressing tailored to both the salad and the rest of the meal.
6. Coke or Pepsi? It’s not that I love diet coke so much as pepsi tastes like fake nutmeg soda.
7. You’re feeling lazy, what do you make? Corn tortilla & shreddi-mex quesadilla
8. You’re feeling really lazy. What kind of pizza do you order? How is this less lazy than a quesadilla? Plain cheese, or pepperoni.
9. You feel like cooking. What do you make? A mess. We eat a lot of chicken, the roommate and I. So mostly I make chicken a la Thai, a la Mexique, a L’Italie. A la Mid-western Americaine. Lately I’ve been exploring my
10. Do any foods bring back good memories? I have a particularly fond memory of snarfing Kentucky Fried Chicken (prior to the name change) in the car, brought by my dad when he came to pick my mom, sister and self up from a hiking trip in the Pecos Wilderness that ended in 5 miles of pouring rain and mucky mud. But… modern day KFC cannot rekindle that memory. My mom’s bizcochitos remind me of Christmasses growning up.
11. Do any foods bring back bad memories? Ramen noodles, rye bread and cooked carrots all remind me of terrible, terrible things eaten during my college years.
12. Do any foods remind you of someone? Parsley laden foods remind me of my mom
13. Is there a food you refuse to eat? Mayonnaise. Most egg dishes. Veal. Organ meats. Soy.
14. What was your favorite food as a child? Macaroni & cheese. Still an occasional treat.
15. Is there a food that you hated as a child but now like? Avocados.
16. Is there a food that you liked as a child but now hate? Lucky Charms cereal. Or see item 4.
17. Favorite fruit and vegetable: Overall, I’ll take the utilitarian apple. So simple and charming. But cherries and oranges run a close second. The best vegetable is an artichoke. No, wait, romaine lettuce. No, back up, it’s green beans. No, wait, artichokes. No, green beans. Yeah. Green beans.
18. Favorite junk food: Chips with salsa & guac.
19. Favorite between meal snack: See item 7.
20. Do you have any weird food habits? Many, I’m sure. I just don’t know which are the weird ones. I tend to eat one food at a time, focusing on the thing that tastes best the hottest. But that strikes me as utterly reasonable.
21. You’re on a diet. What food(s) do you fill up on? I don’t. That’s the point of the diet - - not to fill up. But when I am on the so-called diet, it’s about starch and sugar restriction not calorie restriction. Protein and green vegetables are diet food for me.
22. You’re off your diet. Now what? More pasta! More rice! Sugar! Wheeeee!
23. How spicy do you order Indian/Thai? Significantly less spicy than I used to. I like the spicy, but the she don’ like me.
24. Can I get you a drink? These days I’m in Tea mode, so if you can offer a hot milky mug of PG tips, that would be ever so special.
25. Red or White Wine? Yes! Well, sorta. I’m not drinking so much these days. I’ve quit my wine with dinner ritual, so wine is more of a special occasion thing.
26. Favorite dessert? Panna cotta.
27. The perfect nightcap? If I need a night cap, then I need a hot toddy.
