I am exceptionally upset about losing that damn earring.
With certain narrow exceptions I refuse to buy jewelry for myself. Jewelry should be a gift received. There is no better way to start the day or the evening than by putting on a lovely piece of decoration given to me by someone I care about. In the ten seconds it takes to accessorize I am reminded of someone I love. The downside to this is when jewelry goes on walkabout and doesn't come back. Bye bye sweet memory. Dammit.

I do the same thing, and I hate it when I lose jewelery as well.
A few times I've managed to turn the remaining earring into a necklace. It depends on the kind of earring. I removed the backing and bought some jewelery wire and made a pendant.
