Cookies

Tis winter holiday time and once again I have volunteered to coordinate a cookie exchange for some friends scattered across the country.

Problem A: Finals should have me studying, not cruising Epicurious for cookie recipes

Problem B: one participant is allergic to chocolate. She says she happily passes chocolate cookies to her husband, but I want her to have some cookie joy too. She lives in England, and last year my cookies never made it to her. Extra reason why she should get cookies she can eat from me this year.

Problem C: can't think what kind of cookies to make. I'd wanted to do Jailbird Stewart's Novermber cookie of the month "chocolate ginger" cookies, which were like chocolate gingerbread.

So calling all blog readers: please tell me name of favorite holiday cookies

Spekulatius! Or speculaas. Or however you wanna spell it. Though I guess molds are in order for these. Hm.

EEK, missing the cookie exchange this year.

Haven't tried these yet, but they come from a very trustworthy source (the Chowhound home cooking board). I'm thinking about making them for my own cookie exchange this weekend.
