Heidi may love the flappy birds, but I love the graceful, efficient death on wings birds. Raptors!
Just now there was a sharp shinned hawk sitting on the rail just outside the library window. How did I know it was a sharp shinned hawk as opposed, say, to a red tailed hawk or a peregrine falcon?
Well, I looked it up here and here. I originally thought because of size that it might be a peregrine, I know there are some around here. But the coloring was all wrong. This pigeon sized bird had yellowish orangey eyes, a dusty gray back, and a narrow gray tail with darker gray horizontal bands. The chest was all mottled white and rusty. Speckled? He was a pretty boy. Peregrines look completely different, as I discovered when I looked them up. I'd be pretty excited to see one of them one of these days.
oh wait, I'm not supposed to be looking at birds, I'm supposed to be reading about the insanity defense.
