I never thought I'd lack for a reading list, but that is exactly my predicament.
I've polished off all of my fantasy reading (thank you Tad Williams for taking half-decades to finish a book). But I don't quite feel like cracking the cover on the 9,000 page biography of Alexander Hamilton just quite yet. Something in between is called for. I seek not-quite-fluff, but nothing that will overly tax my tired noggin. Something you could read in the bathtub . . .
One friend has recommended Animal, Mineral, Vegetable, the non-fiction tome by Barbara Kingsolver about eating naturally for a year. Deluxe: how Luxury lost its Luster has five holds ahead of mine at the lieberry. I need something sooner than April.

I'm not sure if you're a science fiction reader at all, but if so, you might try "The Android's Dream" or "Old Man's War" by John Scalzi. Deep enough to be compelling, mindless enough to be easy reading. And "The Android's Dream" also happens to be very funny.
If you're interested in more fantasy, I continue to highly recommend Naomi Novik's "Temeraire" series, which begins with "His Majesty's Dragon."
If you want neither fantasy nor SF...well, I'm having a hard time remembering what was the last piece of fiction I read that was entirely lacking in either spaceships or magic spells.
Bridge of Birds by Barry Hughart.
The Thirteenth Tale, by Diane someone. I would send it to you, but now's not the time to spend $$. I checked it out from the library. Best thing I've read in a year.
Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky.
Beautiful prose, and an amazing accomplishment.
