Opportunity is armed with a two by four

A strange job opportunity has fallen into my lap. A friend of a friend needs help with his software business, specifically on the sales side. Prior to lawschool, that was exactly my career. I spent seven years hawking extremely nerdy, very niche UNIX software to companies with a certain type of desktop user base.

Lawschool it turns out, was primarily good for turning my brain into swiss cheese. You see, I've managed to block out most of what I learned during that time.

Now I have a reasonably lucrative offer sitting in my lap. The problem? I need a refresher in high-end, high tech sales. I vaguely remember the basics of the sales cycle. Generating leads, following up, sending proposals and quotes. Other stuff, I never really learned how to do, forecasting, qualifying leads soft proposals vs. hard quotes.

Then there are other things like collateral development for the marketing team and finding someone who actually HAS their JD, and admission to the California Bar, to help devise a software licensing agreement.

glub, glub, glub.
