NARS

Lest you think my life is nothing but a bleak and joyless grind of eviscerated puppies and storm clouds, I bring you shiny happy lip gloss. While I was cleaning out my backpacking gear I found a little glass jar that says NARS on the lid. Yippee! I had forgotten all about that purchase.

I remember the day I got it. It was the coldest day ever in NYC. My jeans froze stiff still While I Was Wearing Them. It was so cold that I ducked into Sephora to play with the beauty supplies and regain circulation below my waist. It was there that I found this, the best lip gloss ever.

NARS lip gloss in the shade "Baby Doll" is the best product in the whole wide world. It has no fruity flavor to cause you to lick it off, chapping your lips and causing endless reapplication. "Baby Doll" is the perfect neutral shade of rosy pink guaranteed to blend with your coloring, whatever coloring that might be. The shimmer is gorgeous, I swear it makes my lips positively VAGINAL in their appearance. And really, isn't that what we want, for anyone who comes face to face with us to be innundated with visions of velvety moist snatch, there for the spelunking? Yes, I think it is.

I plan to wear it in public this afternoon. We’ll see if anyone follows me home.

NARS supposed to make the top-rated and sold blush in the industry as well, but everyone says Jane's "Burnished Bronze" is an exact drugstore knockoff so I've never bothered. Much the way Physician's Formula is an exact knockoff of Guerlain's makeup.

My one and only these days is Lorac's sheer wash for lips/cheek. I've never used it on my cheeks but it's the only thing I wear to colour my kisser these days-with some Pink Lemonade lipsmackers gloss on top. I've heard LORAC makes a great gel blush but I haven't bothered shelling out to date. I feel fake with blush on.

I'm still looking for a really good soft kohl eyeliner. Maybelline discontinued the one my sister and I like and we're down to nubs right now.

Incidentally, my favourite makeup review place is Makeup Alley

oh yeah, I check them out sometimes. I mostly use a section of the Tribe social networking group called Beauty for Divas or some such. The peeps are generally way too crunchy granola, but they did turn me on to the Voluminous mascara from, L'Oreal I think. It rocks the party.

I'm not much for blusher. I'm mostly a eyeliner, mascara, lip tint kinda gal, though lately I've been having fun with eyeshadow.

That's sort of where I'm at though when I wear lipstick/stain it usually makes my mouth so prominent wearing eyeshadow looks like overkill. At this point I'm down to eyeliner, a SLIGHT smudge of grey/black eyeshadow right above the eyeliner, mascara and lipstain/tint.

Part of my problem has also been that most makeup companies don't make foundation and colours for people with golden tone-most makeups are made for a neutral based skintone rather those of us who are along a "High Yellow" colour spectrum. So I've had a hard time finding a nice foundation and I've just let my facial defects hang out. I was waiting to go to India where I know my skintone is more common.

BUT, I just found this new Canadian company called Vasanti that makes makeup specifically for Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and South Asian women...they will even do makeup consultations for you if you send them a picture though I know exactly what shade is right for me just from their online stuff. I'm so excited...the only problem is that it's expensive so I want to find out what their return policy is before I commit.
