Recently Time Magazine released its annual 50 coolest websites. I was pleased to see a number of my favorite reads made the list. In case your websurfing could use a shot in the arm, here is a sampling of the websites which made this year's list.
www.pandora.com
I think I mentioned this site earlier this week, but it deserves another plug. This is a great site for finding new music. I often listen to it as a form of internet radio. It feels good to discover new bands who aren't basking in the limelight yet.
www.themorningnews.org
The Morning News does more than just flag headlines of interest. This NYC-based news source also has its own content, including film, music and literature reviews. There is a definite Nu Yalk focus, and the vibe extends beyond local issues covered. That's not a bad thing. The writing is clever without being condescending.
www.meebo.com
Meebo isn't a content site, so much as an Instant Messaging aggregator. You can log into your Yahoo, Aim, Jabber and MSN instant messaging accounts all at the same time, without loading a single client onto your hard drive. Although it doesn't offer all the features of the various clients, the ability to run it from a browser tab more than makes up for the lack of features you probably don't even use.
www.mightygoods.com
A shopping blog? Who wants to read about shopping? Aside from the obvious answer, "lots of people," Mighty Goods, strictly speaking, isn't about shopping. Every day the editors post pictures and links to a variety of tasty goods. This site is a perfect idea generator when you're trying to birthday shop for the hard to buy-for people in your life.
