The Call

I suppose every lawyer who has to deal with probate, wills and trusts has to deal with this some time. A scattered person calls... from the hospital. A loved one has been stuck down with a life-threatening injury or a fast moving fatal disease. The family needs a lawyer to come to the hospital to draft a will the dying person will sign from his or her deathbed.

The office got one of these calls today. I spoke briefly to a man who knew barely more than his wife's name. I'm glad I didn't have to get the details. This kind of wills and trusts work isn't much fun.
