power to the people

From the land of the politicblogging comes this great article The Tea Party system. Even better is that the article links to a piece of wired news written by a friend of mine. In Bakersfield the newspaper has turned content control over to the community. How cool is that? Now granted, most of what gets written is local stuff important only to that community, and I wouldn't want to read a paper that only included local information. Receiving data from the entire world is crucial to having an informed perspective on even that which happens locally.

That said, if news media was more engaging and covered more news that people were interested in reporting and producing, perhaps people would develop a greater interest in finding out about non-local news, instead of passively accepting whatever the mainstream media chooses to offer them in terms of global news and events.
